5 ways to kill distractions

Your ability to stay focused is more than a desirable trait to have; it's a vital component for your success. Getting things done is critical, and the key to getting things done is attention and focus.

Here are 5 ways that can help you get rid of distractions:

Determine the root of the problem.

Examine the reasons that cause the distraction and sort out your priorities. Maybe, it is the way your workspace is set up? A distracting sibling? Or You don't have the necessary skills, ideas, or time to complete a task? Whatever it might be, you can correct the effect once you've identified the source.

Prepare yourself.

"Failing to plan is planning to fail."

All effective leaders are excellent planners, making lists for both big and small goals. When a task is assigned to you, take some time to consider how you will do it. Make a list of all the steps you'll need from beginning to end, as well as an approximate timetable.

Turn off your computer and phone.

Email, social media, and cell phones are among the most common sources of distraction. Take yourself offline until you've completed what you need to do if you want to be truly focused.

Dissect the situation.

Make activities smaller and break down projects into smaller jobs to help you concentrate and give you a sense of progress, especially when your distractions are high.

Rise with the sun.

This is an easy task, but the benefits are substantial if you succeed: Start your workday one hour ahead of schedule. Use that hour to plan your day and get started before anything else comes up.

One last tip: Take breaks

Similarly, on most days, forgo the long business lunches in favour of a brief break to go for a walk or clear your thoughts, followed by something light and healthy to keep your blood sugar stable. Devote time to yourself.
