Lack of motivation can crumble you, preventing you from taking action. If you’re sick of feeling unmotivated, you’re in luck because you’re going to uncover the 5 key reasons why you lack motivation and what you need to achieve your objectives.
“People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathing; that’s why we recommend it daily.” -Zig Ziglar
1. You have no idea what you want
This first reason is by far the most prevalent of all the reasons you could be weak in motivation: either you don’t know what you want or don’t understand what you want.
It’s challenging to get inspired to achieve anything if we’re not clear about what we want in the first place.
This issue has an easy answer. It’s important to remember that you can’t hit a target you can’t see. Having said that, set down some compelling, exciting objectives for yourself in each of the critical aspects of your life – physical, financial, emotional, spiritual, etc., and Vola! You will be able to set yourself goals.
2. Staying unmotivated has become your personality
It’s a common habit among us that we make a weakness a part of our identity. An example could be people who never try getting better at math and stick to the saying, “Math isn’t my cup of tea.”
Overcome this and unleash your inner monster by reversing the pattern’s direction. Make it clear to yourself that you do not identify as an unmotivated person but rather as someone highly motivated. YOU ARE INSPIRED.
Keep in mind that identity-based thinking habits might be difficult to manage. It will take some effort to shift your mentality from an unmotivated person to one of a motivated one, but you can do it. And it all starts with declaring that you won’t think of yourself as an uninspired person any longer and then reinforcing that choice daily until it becomes a habit.
3. You aren’t doing anything challenging!
Whatever we want to do — publishing a book, reducing weight, or run a marathon - the level of desire we have to achieve those objectives becomes the most critical factor in accomplishing them.
However, far too many people try to limit their desires. They persuade themselves and others that they don’t need to be successful to be happy. This kind of thinking is hazardous since it limits the breadth of what we’re prepared to do to achieve our objectives. We also restrict the extent of our motivation when we limit the scope of what we’re willing to do.
When our goals are small and uninspired, we become apathetic and unmotivated to attain them. When we have significant, ambitious objectives, we feel motivated and energized to take action toward reaching them. What’s the bottom line? Make meaningful objectives for yourself. Massive action is required.
Push yourself to the very edge of your abilities. You’ll discover that the more action you take, the more inspired you’ll be to accomplish even more.
4. Are you rewarding yourself?
Some goals look like they will take forever to achieve, and the only reward you seek is the final outcome. This could drain away motivation and slow you down. The populous fail to see is that the ultimate result isn’t the only reward you can reap.
Break down goals into steps, and every time you achieve a step, go gift yourself a reward. For instance, if losing weight is your goal and joining the gym is your first step, the reward for joining the gym could be a healthy snack or a delicious protein shake.
5. Your work environment is a disaster
Your work setup is crucial. Imagine your trying to write a book, and a bunch of kids are playing around, yelling out rhymes, and messing with your head. Or maybe there’s too much on your desk; your elbows need to be at an uncomfortable angle to make sure you don’t knock something off your desk.
These distractions strip your motivation, so make sure you pick a distraction-free workplace and declutter your desk to keep the workflow smooth. Take some time before you start grinding and arrange your workplace and make sure you have everything handy, so you don’t have to leave the workplace.
