Stop dating laziness

Whether you’re perfectly happy being single or in the arms of your soulmate, you are always dating one thing in life; LAZINESS!

Yes, laziness has always been your soul-sister, and it’s time to stop swiping right on laziness and break up with procrastination.

Here are 5 tips that will help you break-up with laziness:

1. The 5-second rule

The 5-second rule is a strategy presented by Mel Robbins in her book. The concept is to utilize a countdown when you want to pull anything off. Counting down from 5 to 1 will assist you in taking the needed steps.

After a countdown, humans have an inclination to act. As a result, the rule yields outstanding outcomes. Have you ever observed how as soon as the countdown on new year’s eve is done, you yell Happy New Year with such zeal. The exact impact encourages you to get started on whatever duties you’ve been putting off.

· Find yourself stuck on the couch, countdown 5 to 1, and get yourself out of there.

· Binge-watching all the time? Count 5,4,3,2,1 and close that website.

· Intend to put off responding to an email? Countdown to 5-4-3-2-1 and respond.

2. Make the initial step simple.

For example, if you want to start going to the gym, the most challenging aspect will be getting dressed and getting to the gym. Working out isn’t difficult once you arrive at your destination. The initial step creates a barrier, making the process more difficult.

When the initial step appears to be difficult, strive to make it as simple as possible. If you don’t want to get out of bed in the morning to find your workout clothing, prepare them the night before. The easier the initial step is, the more likely you are to complete the task.

3. The 2-minute rule

In his book Getting Things Done, David Allen suggests the method. According to the guideline, if a task takes less than 2 minutes to perform, it should be completed first.

This eliminates the need to do a trivial task in-between vital tasks and also avoids the instance of completing forgetting the task.

4. Stop wasting time waiting for 30 minutes or an hour to arrive.

Stop waiting for the clock to hit a perfect hour or 30 minutes to arrive; many of us remain to start at times like 7:30 or 8:00. We never know why we do this.

While waiting for the clock to tick at the right hour, we engage in other activities and lose time and focus, so instead, start when you are ready and ride with the momentum.

5. Make use of visual clues

We are visual creatures as human beings. Images are processed faster than words. Assume you’re traveling down the road and come upon a huge sign that says, “This is a unicorn.” You notice another board with a picture of the unicorn a bit farther down the road.

Which of the two can you evaluate more quickly? The solution is self-evident. The image communicates the idea faster than words.

Stick a chart paper on your wall and use a pen to create a visual cue for each activity you want to accomplish. Go creative, and use whatever works for you.
